Where to begin? Well…
I think that is the best place to start this. By asking even where I can start.
An unimaginable amount of stuff has happened since SPECIES: Cabin 6 was released. I became hyper focused on my family. That is all a story within itself. Not as entertaining so we will skip that for now. I got a new job. I was sad to leave my previous one but happy where I am. I have one less organ (stupid gallbladder). And I got we got each of the kids their own cat. One of which I accidently set on fire.
I am sure you have many questions. Yes, I have fully recovered from surgery. And the cat is okay too.
Growing up, I had my own cat. An orange male named Milo. This summer, both of the kids got their own orange males. Cheeto and Butters. Butters is my son’s cat. Butters is loving, soft, fluffy, weirdly laid back and apparently flammable.
I was attempting to make my family a meal that was not delivered or previously frozen. Doesn’t happen often but I try. This included cutting up raw chicken. So I have raw chicken in one hand and a brand-new knife in the other. And then, I am having to fight off a cat who also wants the chicken. Instead of jumping off the counter when I was trying to get him to leave with my elbow, Butters backed up. Butt first right into a burner I had on high to boil a pot of water. There was fire, smoke and a burnt fur smell.
I looked him over several times. Butters’s butt and paws are okay. I believe only the tips of his (butt) fur caught on fire. I think it can be argued that any level of being ‘on fire’ is legitimate. It took longer for the burnt fur smell to leave the kitchen before the cat went back to acting like nothing ever happened.
Now, back to SPECIES. It has been hard to write. Not only has my mind been all over the place, but fiction became reality. I had a story line I was working on. I might still use parts of it. It is fun when you can use real life events in stories. Example? If you have read SPECIES: Cabin 6, the cows that randomly show up at a cabin rental? Yep, really happened. I even have witnesses. But when you are writing fiction, and then something in your story actually happens? Yeah, kind of knocked me off the horse for a while.
So it got me thinking. If I want to get going again, where can I start? At the moment, I am leaning towards using this page to just post what I have already written. There were parts of Cabin 6 I took out. There was stuff I wrote after it was published. And there were things I wrote that are meant to be part of the SPECIES universe that are more stand-alone items. If I feel it is decent, I will consider sharing. But let me be clear, my spelling has always been terrible. I have even more witnesses to my bad spelling then I do the two random cows showing up in the woods.
If you have read this far, thank you. I hope to keep you entertained. I just hope that cat doesn’t catch on fire again.
